dc.description.abstractThe history of the educational system amongIndianMuslimsholdssignificant importance in understanding the dynamics of social and intellectualdevelopmentwithin the Indian subcontinent. This dissertation investigates the evolution of the educational system for IndianMuslims, before and during British colonial rule. It explores the role of madrasas (Islamicreligiousschools) and othereducationalcenters, whichserved as the primary sources of knowledge and religiouseducation for IndianMuslims; in shaping the intellectual and socio-cultural development of IndianMuslims. Movingforward, the research shifts focus to the period of British colonial rule in India. It investigates the changes faced by the IndianMuslimeducational system under the colonial influence. The dissertation explores the introduction of Western education and the influence of British policies on the IndianMuslimeducational system. It alsodelvesinto the attitudes and responses of prominentMuslimreformerswhoresponded to the evolvingeducationallandscape, advocating for modern educationwhilepreservingIslamic values. Furthermore, it examines the educationalstatus of IndianMuslimwomen in botheras. The studyutilizes a qualitative approach, combininghistoricalanalysis and comparative methods, drawingfrom books, articles, and other sources; to explore multiple aspects of the IndianMuslimeducational system. The findings of thisstudycontribute to a deeperunderstanding of the historicalcontext, challenges, and transformations of the educational system amongIndianMuslims.en_US
