With the spread of pollution, the world is witnessing progress in the development of different types of pesticides to control insects, especially mosquitoes, and the use of these pesticides has become a daily way of life, which has made pest control more complicated due to their increased resistance to these synthetic compounds, and the excessive use of these chemical pesticides may cause negative effects on human health and the environment directly or indirectly. Therefore, substances of natural origin are needed to avoid the dangers of these synthetic substance. Biologists have been working to develop and produce safe biocontrol methods, among which the use of easily biodegradable plant compounds is one of the safest ways to control disease carrying insect pests. Our work aims to test the effect of essential oil extracted from the aerial part of Ruta graveolens by hydrodistillation with a Clevenger-type apparatus on biomarkers (GSTs / Catalase), on total protein content, on the growth and weight of mosquito larvae Culiseta longiareolata most prevalent in Tebessa region. The distillation of Ruta graveolens showed a yield of 0.46% of dry matter. The CL50 concentration of Ruta graveolens essential oil was set at: 4µL/mL The results of the comparison of L4 larvae treated with CL50 with controls after 24, 48 and 72 hours showed the following: - Significant increase in the specific activity of GSTs at 24, 48 and 72 hours. - A very significant increase in the specific activity of catalase at 24, 48 hours and negligible activity at 72 hours. - Significant reduction in the total protein content of the larvae . - Essential oil of R. graveolens significantly affects the body weight of treated larvae compared to control.en_US
