Abstract: In this work, Co doped CuO thin films were deposited by sol gel spin-coating technique on glass substrates. Copper (II) acetate monohydrate and Cobalt (II) acetate tetrahydrate were used as the starting salt materials source, isopropanol as solvent and monoethanolamine as stabiliser. The as-coated films were dried at 250 °C for 10 min and then annealed at 500 °C for 1 hour. Average transmittance of the Co doped CuO films was above 50%.A bleu shift in the absorption edge of CuO with increasing Co concentration in the film is noteworthy as it leads to decrease in the width of the optical transmission. On the other hand, the two parameters band gap and refractive indices followed an opposite trend and changed from 1.99 to 2.01 eV and from 2.13 to 2, respectively.
