Abstract: Mosques are architectural features and structures that exist in all Islamic cities. They represent the spirit and essence of the Islamic faith. The decoration in mosques’ architecture is a living language that has a symbolic significane to Muslim, especially those who often rely on Arabic calligraphy and decorations. The mosque is the center from which the Islamic society is based. The Muslim artist mastered the mechanisms and foundations of these architectural innovations. Muslim architect has created the formation of the engineering system to embody the spirit and architecture of the mosque. The first phase of the study focused on the Islamic decorative art in general and its elements; (engineering elements, plants elements, written elements), in addition to the bases and foundations of this art. In the next stage we followed a descriptive study of the Islamic decorative art of mosques. We then devoted a whole chapter to the historic mosques in Algeria. We focused on the Islamic decorative art in it. In the next phase, we studied the case of the Grand Mosque of Cheikh El- Arabi Tebbesi and its Islamic decorative art. Finally, we attributed the dimensions of each architectural element of the Grand Mosque to a particular building.
