Code-switching is used by bilinguals and multilinguals. It's a phenomenon
which attracts great attention in the field of sociolinguistics. This research aims
first to find out if the phenomenon of code-switching exists between students,
second to discover the reasons for code switching in a conversation, he also
highlighted the phenomenon in the Algerian context. For this goal, a questionnaire was
used as a research tool and addressed to thirty-three third-year English students
at the University of Tebessa. Analysis and interpretation of the data showed that students in
third graders change the codes during their conversations either inside or outside the classroom. They
also change between languages for multiple reasons, one of them being the lack
of vocabulary in the language as well as to understand others and to be understood. Finally they
frequently change between languages in all situations and settings.
