Abstract
Complex Analysis is an important area of mathematics that focuses on functions of
complex variables and their unique properties. At first, it may seem like just an extension of
real analysis, but it quickly reveals a much richer structure and more powerful results. What
makes this field special is not only its theoretical depth, but also its wide range of applications
in science and engineering.
We usually start with complex numbers, learning how to represent them and perform
basic operations. Moving to polar and exponential forms helps us understand them in a more
intuitive way. Concepts like Euler’s formula and De-Moivre’s theorem are especially useful,
as they connect different areas of mathematics and make many calculations simpler.
As we go further, we study holomorphic functions and the Cauchy–Riemann equations,
which are key to understanding differentiability in the complex plane. These functions behave
in a very “well-organized” way, which allows us to obtain strong and elegant results. Closely
related to this are harmonic functions, which appear naturally in many physical problems such
as heat transfer and fluid flow.
Another important part of the subject is power series, including Taylor and Laurent series.
These tools allow us to express complex functions as infinite sums, which makes it easier to
study their behavior, especially near certain points. They are also very useful in
approximation methods used in engineering.
Cauchy’s theory is one of the most powerful parts of Complex Analysis. It provides
fundamental results that help us evaluate complex integrals and understand the behavior of
functions in a deeper way. Building on this, the residue theorem gives us a very efficient
method for solving integrals that would otherwise be very difficult using real-variable
techniques.
We also encounter special functions like the Gamma and Beta functions, which extend
familiar concepts and appear in many applications, especially in probability and advanced
mathematics.
