Abstract
The Scientific Seminar and Writing module holds critical importance for all Master's
students, particularly those specializing in Applied Microbiology. It plays a pivotal role
in their academic training by providing not only practical skills but also essential
methodological tools for conducting research and effectively communicating their
findings.
This module is designed to help students master essential skills in scientific
research, thesis writing, and seminar preparation. It is divided into three main parts,
guiding students through the fundamental stages of scientific inquiry and
communication.
1. Scientific Research Methods: This section focuses on understanding scientific
research techniques. Students will learn how to formulate research questions,
develop hypotheses, and identify appropriate methodologies for data collection and
analysis. The course also covers literature searches, critical evaluation of scientific
sources, and reference management.
2. Methods for Writing an Internship Report and Dissertation: The second part
of the module addresses the structure and requirements for writing an internship
report and a final dissertation. Students will receive practical guidance on drafting the
various sections of a dissertation, including the introduction, literature review,
methodology, results, and discussion. Emphasis will be placed on presenting
scientific results clearly and logically, as well as using precise scientific language.
3. Seminar: The final section of the module is devoted to organizing and delivering a
scientific seminar. Students will learn how to structure an oral or poster presentation,
make effective use of visual aids, and present their research compellingly and
professionally. The focus will be on communicating complex ideas to diverse
audiences and handling questions and discussions following the presentation.
This module provides students with a well-rounded set of theoretical and practical
skills essential for not only completing their Master's studies successfully but also for
their smooth integration into the professional or research sectors. It equips them with
the expertise required for scientific writing, as well as for oral and visual
communication of their research, which are key elements for their future academic
and professional endeavors.
