Abstract : This study aimed to identify the nature of the relationship between perceived parental treatment styles (democratic and authoritarian) and academic self-efficacy among psychology students at the Martyr Drid Abdelmadjid University Centre – Boulhaf Eddir during the academic year 2025/2026. To achieve this objective, the two student researchers adopted the descriptive correlational method as the appropriate approach for the nature of the study. The total population consisted of 120 male and female students, from which a simple random sample of 76 students was selected, distributed across the following academic levels: second-year Educational Sciences, second-year Psychology, third-year Counselling and Guidance, and first-year Master's in Counselling and Guidance. The data collection instrument was a questionnaire comprising 19 items with five response alternatives (Always, Often, Sometimes, Rarely, Never); the instrument was verified for validity and reliability prior to administration. Following statistical processing using the Pearson correlation coefficient and the one-sample t-test, the study yielded a set of findings, the most important of which are: A statistically significant positive correlation at the 0.000 level between perceived democratic parental style and academic self-efficacy, with a correlation coefficient of 0.216. A statistically significant negative correlation at the 0.050 level between perceived authoritarian parental style and academic self-efficacy, with a correlation coefficient of -0.060. The sample members exhibited a high level of academic self-efficacy, with an arithmetic mean of 4.077 and a relative weight of 81.54%. The study concluded that perceived parental styles are qualitatively associated with academic self-efficacy in different ways depending on the parenting style, with the democratic style contributing more to enhancing academic self-efficacy compared to the authoritarian style, which showed a very limited negative effect. The study recommends raising families’ awareness of the importance of adopting treatment styles based on dialogue and encouragement, and conducting future studies that incorporate mediating variables for a deeper explanation of the dynamics of this relationship among Algerian university students.
