This study aims to examine the impact of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications on scientific research among students of the Department of Information and Communication Sciences at the University of Tebessa. In light of rapid digital transformations, AI tools have become an integral part of academic research practices. The study adopted the descriptive method, which aligns with the nature of the topic, and employed both a questionnaire and simple observation to identify patterns of AI usage and its influence on knowledge production. The study population consisted of 317 students, and a quota sample of 63 participants was selected to represent the different academic levels. The findings revealed a significant reliance on AI applications throughout various stages of research preparation, particularly in information retrieval, content summarization, and idea organization, which contributed to faster completion and improved structural quality. However, the study also identified potential negative implications, such as reduced cognitive effort, weakened critical thinking skills, and increasing dependency on digital tools. The theoretical framework relied on McLuhan’s Technological Determinism Theory to interpret how the digital medium shapes the form and content of academic knowledge. The study concludes with an emphasis on promoting balanced and responsible use of AI applications to preserve the authenticity and quality of scientific research
